Paradise near Bali

A place in the world that’s so peaceful and inspiring deserves an article on this blog.

The Gili Islands. As we only had 4 days, we decided to go for the biggest Island amongst the group of three, Gili Trawangan. Big is an understatement as you can bike around the Island in about an hour. We chose Gili Trawangan because we read that it’s the best choice for younger people. You can relax, dive and enjoy the great nature in combination with some late night activities (= beach parties). If you completely want to avoid the latter, we recommend going to Gili Meno or Gili Air. It’s possible to book a day tour from Gili Trawangan to Meno and Air if you would like to see all three Islands.

You can only go to the Islands group by ferry/boat. What’s not to like about that right? The girlfriend found this really great website which allowed us to book ferry tickets at half price. For cheap tickets, press here. We truly recommend to always do research before booking trips, excursions or hotels. Very often we are able to find a voucher code or a better deal. Put all of these together and things can really sum up.

Quick side note: My girlfriend became an expert on this topic and usually manages to find some extra discount. She’s awesome!

The Gili islands are a great place to escape the hustle of the real world, to dive and to relax. For starters, there is not a single car on the island. As it’s small and only has dirt roads, cars are not necessary. Supplies are being delivered by boat and then handed over to the locals who use horse and carriage. Besides bicycles there are also some electrical scooters available, though, I’m not sure if these are up for rent.

We stayed at Villa Nero and had a lovely experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful and our room was amazing. The best part for me was the bathroom, which is located outside and very modern. You are able to take a shower looking at the stars. A great experience overall. I recommend booking a room with just breakfast because lunch and dinner at the hotel are more expensive than the restaurants on the island. Plus, you don’t want to miss the amazing food from the local restaurants.

We highly recommend Casa Vintage. Dinner on the beach while watching the sunset will become an unforgettable experience. Be sure to arrive at least 45 minutes before dusk to assure a good spot. Pituq café offers amazing vegetarian dishes and the local fish market is famous for the high variety of tasty dishes and the incredible atmosphere it radiates.

If you wish to know more about our experience, feel free to ask.
