Portfolio update

As the end of the year is approaching fast, it means I can start reminiscing about 2017 and how I can improve my investing strategy in the nearby future.

Firstly, I would like to mention my dividend income.

I was able to collect 614,26 € in dividend income. This doesn’t sound like much but after focussing on this strategy for just one year, I consider this a great first milestone. Based on that, my goal is to double this in 2018. I’m confident I can reach this without a lot of problems. Consistently investing is the key.

I’m keeping a list of stocks where the dividend payout is at least 4%. My focus will be on adding additional companies to increase my dividend income. Besides that, I’m also re-evaluating my asset allocation as I want to make sure my portfolio covers enough areas and sectors. Consistently buying ETF’s is on my to do list as well. Every month at least 500 € goes towards the purchase of my current ETF’s. Why 500? Exceeding this threshold allows me to buy them without brokerage fee. Preferably I would like to add one more to create bigger allocation.

The portfolio.

In the last quarter I added more names to my portfolio and I sold one as well. First off, the new purchases.

35 shares Enagas: This is a Spain-based company primarily engaged in the gas transportation with a great dividend payout. I bought them before the ex dividend date for 2017.

70 shares Glaxosmithkline: This is a global healthcare company. The Company operates through three segments: Pharmaceuticals, Vaccines and Consumer Healthcare.

Additional 71 shares Engie. I already owned 46 shares.  This is a France-based natural gas and electricity supplier.

32 shares AT&T. The Company is a provider of communications and digital entertainment services in the United States and the world.

I sold 15 shares of Kinepolis with a profit of 50%. I sold these due to the big capital gain and because the dividend payout was not great.

Net worth.

They say the first 100.000 are the hardest to come by. If I can keep saving like I do at this point, I should reach this in about 2.5 years. That is, considering my own net worth. The goal for 2018 is to increase my net worth with 20.000 €.You might think this is not a real goal as I was able to increase my net worth with 19.317 € this year.

However, if everything goes according to plan, I should have an extra investment project coming up which could cost a bit of money at first. In any case, I will definitely review these numbers after six months and if necessary, adjust accordingly.

Thanks for visiting The Melon Deal. See you all next year.
